SCAMMERS (THIEVES)



 


To recognize orange money scam.

As in any business, there will always be scammers and victims of it around. These scammers always try continuously to achieve their bad tricks.

Some of their tricks are:

  • They copy old mobile money transaction text message and send it to the victim as if it is a real transaction and they call you to send it back to them as if they have done mistake.
  • They call the victim as if they are customer care service representatives.
  • They call as if they have done a mistake and trick the victim to reverse the money.
  • They call and ask for someone's name as if they want to send money for that person; there, they send ordinary message and tell you since the intended person is not with you resend the money to us.
  • They will advise the person not to tell another person about the chance.



How to recognize a mobile money scam?

  • Look at the tittle of the message, if you see an ordinary telephone number instead of Orange Money or 161.
  • If someone calls and tells you that you have won some amount of money.
  •  When someone calls you and ask for your information (such as password, age) in order to transfer your money. 
  • When someone request for money in order to confirm your winning.
  • When someone ask you to send e-voucher to him so that he will transfer the money you won to you.
  • When someone calls you and claim he is calling from the National Telecom Regulator.

How to avoid being a victim

  1. Check your balance #144*1*PIN#;
  2. #145*1*PIN#
  3.  *161*8*1*1*PIN#
  4. *162*1*1*1*PIN#
  5. Call customer care executive assistant
  6. Observe the tittle of the message: if it is written Orange Money or 161 it is authentic.
  7. When someone tells you to send him money before claiming your winning, tell him to take it out your winning and send the balance money.

How do scammers get your number?

When they buy top-up from you.

When they cash-out or cash-in.

Sometimes, they just guess a number and try it.

Beware! I didn't say anybody that does transaction with you is a scammer. Don't assume or accuse any of your customers.

Follow the guidelines I gave you above to deal with them.
